IMPERIAL RESPONSE TO NATIONAL ASPIRATIONS (1930-1947)
SUKHBIR CHOUDHARY
The movement for Indian Freedom symbolized the national response of the Indian people to British Imperial rule. India was always nation. All empires are more or less similar. They fatten on the exploitation of the many. Like Romans, the Britishers thought that the world is made for them. But the stiff and bold resistance from all and sundry and a polished and intellectual reply from congress leaders to the Britishers compelled them to enhance gradually all political gains and at last they, perforce, have to withdraw from Indian soil. The imperial response to Indian demands was slow and gradual but definite. The book discusses all events and all imperial responses from 1930 to 1947 in a very comprehensive manner. Each students of modern history will find it most useful. Must for every library.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC NATIONALISM (1800-1918)
SUKHBIR CHOUDHARY
This volume is dedicated to great social reformer-Raja Rammohan Roy, who initiated a new social like in India, and Sh. Dada Bhai Naoroji, who roared in Metropolitan Parliament for economic and political justice for his countrymen. The book discusses from 1800 A.D. onwards the role played by economic and social factors in awakening national consciousness in a very comprehensive fashion. British Rule in India was based on economic exploitation of the indigenous people. Large scale and small scale industries in India were purposely destroyed by the imperialist rulers so that India be compelled to import from England. Similarly, on social front several distinguished personalities were active like Raja Rammohan Roy who succeeded in getting passed the law leading to abolition of Sati from Lord Bentink. Mahadev Govind Ranade was active on western coast in the same task in the second half of the same century. In short there was a clash of interests of the Indians and imperialists in the economic and social fields. The book is a beautiful collection of historical events, speeches and other economic and social facts. It gathers at one place all such factors which facilitated the achievement of independence like Swadeshi Boycott movement, transport and communication system and fundamental to all the trade and industry. The book will prove very useful for students of modern history, economic history in particular. Must for every library.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC NATIONALISM (1919-1929)
SUKHBIR CHOUDHARY
In the post-war period the economic condition of Indians were far from satisfactory. One of the issues, which created economic restlessness and alienated the Indian people was the agrarian policy of the British Government. Encouragement of producing such raw materials as jute, cotton, oil seeds and foodgrains was done with the object of encouraging their export to the British market. Similarly, the future of India depended on industrialization but to the British people especially the ruling agencies, industrialization appeared a "false beacon as a means of regeneration." Industrialisation was seriously obstructed by the interest of British traders, manufacturers and financers. Gandhiji said, "Give me Khadi I will give you Swaraj.."This was a slogan to supplement the income of the Indians. Several socio-religious reform movement like Brahmo Samaj, were organised to improve the lot of poor masses. The book discusses socio-economic nationalism in a convincingly comprehensive style. It will be very useful for students of modern history. The text is very simple and lucid. Even layman will find the book very interesting. However, it will form a precious collection of each library.
